Phil Spencer regrets comment he made about Starfield and clarifies it

The executive wants Bethesda's game to exceed all expectations

Xbox boss Phil Spencer surprised everyone in May when he claimed that they will never beat Sony and Nintendo with only great games. During an interview that went viral, the executive also claimed that "there's no world where Starfield is an 11/10 and people start selling their PS5s."

Now, Spencer is somewhat regretful of his words, so he spoke on the subject again to qualify his statements about Starfield. He accepted that his statements did not entirely please him and now assured that his goal is to create the best games possible.

Spencer wants to offer the best titles to Xbox gamers

Spencer used a recent interview with The Guardian (via Pure Xbox) to clarify his comments about Starfield and the titles Xbox plans to offer its gamers in the future. He knows that his initial words lend themselves to misinterpretation and the idea that Xbox is not looking to offer great games to its community.

For that reason, the executive clarified that their goal is to offer the best titles they can to their users, including Starfield. So they have worked hard to deliver the best version of Bethesda's game.

"it’s not that Starfield getting at 11 out of 10 isn’t our goal – although, that’s a silly way of putting it. I don’t know if I’m gonna use review scores as the mark of all quality. But making the best Starfield is absolutely our goal. I want to build the absolute best games we can."," Spencer said.

With this, he reiterates that quality games and high production values are important to Xbox, but not vital to its current strategy, which is underpinned by various business models. Spencer's clarifications make sense, especially since Starfield has had a great reception after everything shown at its recent event.
