Could classic FPS Hexen be making a comeback? Fans believe Phil Spencer gave them a clue

Microsoft is close to acquiring the developer and publisher of the vintage title

The Xbox Games Showcase 2023 caused quite a stir with the number of games that were revealed. There's one game that wasn't announced, but fans believe Xbox could confirm it in the future.

If you paid attention to the event, you'll likely remember that at the end, the head of the brand, Phil Spencer, appeared to reaffirm his commitment to the fans.

However, something that caught people's attention was that he was wearing a very particular T-shirt, as it had the design of Hexen, a classic FPS game developed by id Software and originally published by Raven Software in 1983.

"To be honest, I didn't really communicate much internally about it. And then I'm on camera recording and people are like, 'What's that?' and I'm like, 'Oh, don't worry about it,'" expressed Spencer.

Did PHIL SPENCER give a hint about the return of HEXEN?

As for whether this is a hint about the return of this FPS game, Spencer explained that it's not the case: "It wasn't me trying to tease their announcement, it was just me recognizing the importance of some of the games in our portfolio" (via Polygon).

The executive explained that his tradition of wearing video game shirts during Xbox presentations dates back a long time, and the first one he wore was from Jumpman, published by Epix in 1983 for the Commodore 64. There was nothing hidden in it, he just wore it to commemorate the times when he and his father played the game, something that only his father (who would be watching the event) would understand, aside from being near Father's Day and an E3.

It's worth mentioning, however, that on other occasions, Spencer has worn shirts from games that had news about them in the near future. The most memorable case is that of Battletoads, a franchise that Xbox revived years ago and that Spencer teased.

Now that Microsoft has acquired Bethesda (owner of id Software), it could be said that they already have the publisher of Hexen. If it finalizes the purchase of Activision Blizzard King, Xbox would also have the original developer and owner of the franchise, so it shouldn't have a problem if it wants to work on a new installment.

What do you think of Spencer's hint? Let us know in the comments.
