Will Final Fantasy VII Rebirth be an open-world game?

Square Enix promises a lot of freedom

Last year was great for Final Fantasy fans, as Square Enix finally decided to talk about the continuation of Final Fantasy VII Remake, the enhanced version of the 1997 classic that would be released in parts. The Japanese company seems ready to talk more about the project and has just confirmed something that will please Midgar lovers.

However, it has been almost a year since Square Enix first spoke about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and until now, it is not known exactly when it will debut beyond the "winter" window of 2023.

In an unconventional way, Square Enix is taking advantage of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XVI to offer news about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth through Q&A sessions with text images on Twitter. Yes, in a strange way, but ultimately clearing up fans' doubts.

WILL FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH BE AN OPEN-WORLD GAME?

Just like Square Enix revealed that the development of the game is progressing, this weekend, the company talked more about what will be seen in the game itself, precisely in Midgar.

With the changes that Final Fantasy VII Remake brought, Square Enix imagines that fans have doubts about what the second part will look like in terms of its world and exploration. So, they took the opportunity to explain that "players can travel through the vast and multifaceted world with a high degree of freedom," according to director Naoki Yamaguchi.

Square Enix did not confirm whether Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be an open-world game or if it will have more open areas like Sonic Frontiers or Monster Hunter Rise, but it is clear that it will be very different from the original and that players will have plenty to do. It was also anticipated that there will be "a myriad of different stories", perhaps referring to side missions and tasks for the protagonists.

We remind you that Square Enix prepared an event dedicated to Final Fantasy VII, which took place in June 2022. So far, the company has not announced any events for 2023, but it is not ruled out that they will do so a few days before (like last year). However, there is also a possibility that it will appear at Summer Game Fest 2023.
