10-year-old girl spent over $3,000 on Roblox and left her mom without money

An anguished mother's story had a happy ending

History repeated itself: a minor spent a lot of money on Roblox without her parents' authorization and almost ruined her entire family's finances. Georgina Munday, a 44-year-old woman, recently told how her 10-year-old daughter spent more than $3,000 on the popular game and got her into big trouble.

Minor almost ruined his family by spending his savings on Roblox

This distressing story began when Munday saw hundreds of transactions on her card that she could not recognize. At first, he thought someone had hacked it, but later realized that his 10-year-old daughter had changed the password to allow payments from a tablet.

The girl had been spending many hours on the device, as she used to play Roblox. Muday noticed that his daughter had spent £2500, or $3107 on the popular game. This was through various transactions that did not exceed £20.

Georgina, a nurse by profession, had paused her work for a while to take care of her daughter with autism. So she used the time she had to spare to contact Apple and her bank to try to get a refund, as it had all been a mistake. To her misfortune, both the company and the bank denied her.

"It was a really stressful time. I am not working at the minute, I am looking after my daughter (...) "I rang up Tesco Bank and they said, because it was my daughter, they couldn't do anything about it. So I tried Apple again - they just read me their terms and conditions. So that's when I contacted the BBC." the woman said.

Her case was publicized on the news and social media, which changed the perception of everything. Fortunately, her bank agreed to give her the full refund she had requested. For its part, Apple reminded its users that there are settings to avoid this type of problems with minors.

The news also reached the ears of those responsible for the game, who recommended making use of their refund system and parental control to avoid falling into a similar situation. "I cried - it was just a relief, a weight off my shoulders," said the woman when the bank notified her of the good news.
