NetherRealm Studios shook the community with the official announcement of Mortal Kombat 1, the latest game in the franchise that will feature an original story set in a new timeline. Despite this project being just revealed, it has already sparked a couple of controversies.

The fighting game will only be available for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, which means that players on the previous generation of Microsoft and Sony consoles won't be able to play it. Naturally, the community is disappointed and demanding answers.

Prices and more details about Mortal Kombat 1

The development studio confirmed that the Standard Edition of Mortal Kombat 1 will cost $69.99 USD, the Premium Edition will be priced at $109.99 USD, and the Kollector's Edition will have a price tag of $249.99 USD. You can read more about the content of each edition by clicking on this link.

However, the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section on the website reveals some information that will stir up discussions. Specifically, it confirms that the fighting video game will have an in-game currency known as Dragon Krystals, which opens the door to the always controversial microtransactions.

The specific function of this in-game currency is unknown, but it is expected to be used for purchasing skins and other customization items. It is also a mystery whether players will be able to unlock it by playing in the various game modes. Currently, it is known that those who purchase the Premium Edition and the Kollector's Edition will receive 1250 and 2700 units, respectively.

While this news may disappoint a portion of the community, it was somewhat expected. Mortal Kombat 11, the game that debuted in 2019, introduced Time Krystals, a currency used to purchase customization gear and skins. This currency could be obtained with real money or by completing certain challenges in the game.

We will have to wait to find out how to acquire the Dragon Krystals and learn more about their function.

But tell us, did you expect the inclusion of microtransactions? Does it disappoint you? Let us know in the comments.

Mortal Kombat 1 is currently in development for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC. It will debut on September 19th.
