A new teaser confirms that the fighting title will be revealed on May 18th

Mortal Kombat 11, the latest installment in the popular fighting franchise, stopped receiving content a couple of years ago. The reason? NetherRealm Studios focused all its resources on its new project. Fortunately, it seems that we are just a few hours away from finding out what they have in store.

The new Mortal Kombat installment has been a recurring topic in recent days. Rumors and hints suggest that its announcement will take place sometime in May, and reports have even emerged sharing the alleged release window and the first DLC characters.

Undoubtedly, there are many questions surrounding Ed Boon and his team's new title. Luckily, it seems that we are just a few hours away from learning the first official details.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEW MORTAL KOMBAT IS CLOSER THAN EVER

Through a Twitter post, Ed Boon, the creative director of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of the fighting franchise, shared a tweet that caused a stir on the internet. Specifically, he cryptically stated that "this week should be fun" alongside a dragon emoji. Additionally, the official IP account shared a video that marked a date on the calendar: May 16th at 6:00am PT.

Naturally, it is easy to assume that the development studio will officially unveil its new project, which is presumed to be a Mortal Kombat reboot, on Thursday, May 18th. The community is certainly excited and eagerly awaits the announcement. However, it is possible that it will only be a CGI trailer showcasing the initial details of the characters and the setting.

This week, Sony confirmed that they will host a new edition of the PlayStation Showcase on May 24th, a digital event that will showcase upcoming games for PlayStation 5 and PSVR2. Could that be the stage where we will see the fighting title in action for the first time?
