“It's LGBT propaganda”, Horizon Forbidden West singer receives hate messages from homophobic fans

Julie Elven participates in the most controversial scene in the Burning Shores expansion

Horizon Forbidden West debuted last year and overall received very positive reviews from the community. Unfortunately, the story was drastically different with the Burning Shores expansion, which debuted in April surrounded by controversy. The reason? The inclusion of a moment that angered players. The problem is that the displeasure has now turned into insults and hate messages.

Before continuing, it's important to say that this article contains spoilers for the Guerrilla video game.

At the end of the Burning Shores expansion of Horizon Forbidden West, players can choose a romantic option. If chosen, Aloy will kiss Seyka, her new travel companion. This relationship provoked anger from some players, who did review bombing under the argument that it was LGBT propaganda.

Unfortunately, the controversy persists weeks after the official release of the downloadable content. Now, the target of the anger from homophobic players is Julie Elven, a singer who participated in the PlayStation and Guerrilla title.

JULIE ELVEN, SINGER OF HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST, RECEIVES HATE MESSAGES FROM TOXIC USERS

The musician has an extensive professional history, as she has participated as a vocalist in the soundtracks of League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and, of course, the Horizon franchise. She lent her voice to the song heard during the romantic moment between Aloy and Seyka. This fact did not go unnoticed by toxic fans.

Julie Elven took to her personal Twitter account to denounce that, since the expansion's release in April, she has been receiving private messages from angry fans. Fortunately, she states that positive comments abound and overshadow the insults, although she points out that this situation highlights how much society needs to change.

“Story-wise, this scene made so much sense and I continue to stand with Guerrilla and am proud to be a part of it. To clarify: This is not about DMs where people express that they didn't like the story - it's about the absolutely hateful messages. I don't feel too affected by them (and can't take them seriously or personally tbh), but it's a reminder how much still needs to change!”, she said.

Fortunately, many users expressed their support for the singer in the comment section. They also condemned the harassment and hate messages.

But tell us, what do you think of this case? Let us know in the comments.
