CMA will back and approve Microsoft's acquisition of Activision this week, according to claims

The agency will soon reveal its verdict on Microsoft's purchase

This week is very important for Microsoft and everything related to the purchase of Activision Blizzard. This is because the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will finally announce its verdict on this important agreement.

According to The Financial Times, Microsoft has the upper hand, so it is expected that the UK agency will approve the acquisition of the prominent studio without further ado. We are about to find out what will happen, as the CMA will pronounce on or before Wednesday, April 26th.

Jonathan Moules, a journalist for The Financial Times, wrote an article called Back To Life (via The Gamer), where he talks about the global economy and its current state. In one section, he talks about the technology industry and Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

He claims that the CMA will give its verdict this week and is expected to back the acquisition, and therefore approve it. We know that the agency has changed its stance on the deal, as it was initially strongly opposed and now sided with Microsoft.

"The Competition and Markets Authority must finally rule on whether the technology company’s acquisition of games maker Activision Blizzard should be blocked (...) although it is unlikely to do so, with the CMA expected to back the deal," said Moules.

After an investigation, the CMA concluded that it would not make sense for Microsoft to make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox. Therefore, it believes that the acquisition of Activision Blizzard will not harm competition. This despite all the arguments that Sony, the main detractor, has presented over the past few months.

While the CMA still has other concerns about the deal, Activision Blizzard is confident that the purchase will be approved. Mainly because Microsoft has already presented solutions to issues such as cloud gaming and services.
