Luckily, the new installment of Bandai Namco's franchise will allow crossplay.

TEKKEN 8 is one of the most anticipated fighting games by fans. While more details about this ambitious project are slowly being revealed, there are still many doubts in the air. Luckily, the franchise's producer and director, Katsuhiro Harada, shared great news that will excite the community.

IT'S OFFICIAL! TEKKEN 8 WILL HAVE CROSSPLAY AND ROLLBACK NETCODE

Through his social media, the creative confirmed that the eighth main installment of the saga will have crossplay, meaning players from all platforms will be able to compete with each other in online modes. Additionally, he announced that they will implement rollback netcode, a network code that offers lag-free and uninterrupted matches.

Undoubtedly, these are excellent news for fans waiting for TEKKEN 8. It's no secret that fighting games benefit from having a large and active online community. Crossplay will expand the player base and reduce search times, while rollback netcode promises to make matches more responsive.

WHY WAS CROSSPLAY ABSENT IN TEKKEN 7? KATSUHIRO HARADA REVEALS IT

Katsuhiro Harada took the opportunity to talk about the absence of crossplay in the seventh installment that debuted for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in 2018. Specifically, he commented that he proposed implementing that feature on the "2 platforms" - possibly PS4 and Xbox One -, but Microsoft and Sony rejected his initiative.

"When the previous generation consoles debuted, I proposed crossplay between the 2 platforms. However, at that time, they disagreed with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issues). They repeatedly refused," commented the Japanese creative.

In a follow-up post, Katsuhiro Harada commented that crossplay was difficult to implement before, especially for third-party games. This was despite the companies saying that they were open to allowing that feature on their platforms. Fortunately, the outlook is much more encouraging, although there are still obstacles in the way.

"Do you remember when they announced that they were open to crossplay a few years ago? But in reality, they didn't actively support third parties at that time, and the obstacles were quite high. There are still some problems, but it will be possible," the director and producer concluded on his personal Twitter account.

TEKKEN 8 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
