One of the biggest successes was casting Jack Black as Bowser, as the actor is not only capable of fantastic voice acting, but also has the musical capabilities to exceed the requirements of the movie. However, he just mentioned that he is not sure if he will return as Mario's fierce rival and the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom.
After seeing Jack Black's performance in Super Mario Bros. The Movie, anyone could say that the American actor should keep the role and repeat his interpretation in case of sequels. But it is precisely Black who does not take this as a given and suggested the idea that he may not return for the role, not because he does not want to play the character again or because he is considering retirement (as Jim Carrey is doing for upcoming Sonic movies), but because plans for future films could leave the character out.
"It's not a given that Bowser will return. You know, I did some Kung Fu Panda movies and in each movie there was a different villain. They could do the same [with the Super Mario Bros. movies]," expressed Jack Black in an interview with GameSpot.

Then Black was questioned about the possibility that something like in Fast & Furious might happen, where Bowser ends up as an ally of Mario and his companions, which the actor complemented by imagining a scenario where they have to join forces to defeat a more powerful villain, and then he imagined the recognized and beloved actor Pedro Pascal playing a certain rival of Mario.
"You know, what if there's a more powerful and evil villain? Then I'd have to help Mario and the rest defend our universe against another unknown force of evil. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?... Wario. Pedro Pascal is Wario," imagined the actor with a narrator's voice.
Jack Black's idea doesn't sound bad at all. Pedro Pascal is an internationally acclaimed actor and loved all over the world, and it is very likely that there will be more Super Mario movies, which will inevitably introduce more characters from the franchise and will surely not forget Wario.
