Super Mario Bros. The Movie debuted this week and is proving to be a huge success at the box office in several parts of the world. As you can imagine, Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal Pictures are very pleased with this and have even suggested that they could work on more films together.

As part of the press tour for Super Mario Bros. The Movie, members of the creative team of the film spoke with the press. Screen Rant had the opportunity to interview Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, and Chris Meledandri, CEO of Illumination.

During the conversation, Chris Meledandri said that they are currently focused on Super Mario Bros. The Movie and its release. However, he made it clear that collaborating with Nintendo was a rewarding process and that the Japanese company even invited him to join their board of directors. He also pointed out that they are already working on something for the future.

"Right now, we're very focused on this movie, up to Wednesday, and how the audience engages with the movie. Nintendo and Illumination have had a really gratifying collaboration. Mr. Miyamoto and his colleagues have invited me to join the board of directors of Nintendo, and we're working together on the future, with me in that position. But it's difficult for us to talk about anything else at this point," said Meledandri.

But what does Miyamoto think about it? The Nintendo creative refused to comment much. However, he left the door open to collaborate again with this animation company.

"At the moment, there's nothing I can comment on. But we start from the fact that we have a shared vision of creation, so I think there will be opportunities in the future. As Chris mentioned, there's nothing we can share right now. But I'm sure we'll continue to work on this partnership."

What do you think of this news? What other Nintendo movies would you like to see from these companies? Let us know in the comments.
