The upcoming "Super Mario Bros." movie is shaping up to be a musical, according to recent comments from the film's producer, Chris Meledandri. In an interview with Variety, Meledandri revealed that the movie would feature "at least three" songs, with music composed by legendary "Mario" composer Koji Kondo.
Meledandri, known for producing animated hits like the "Despicable Me" and "Ice Age" franchises, also spoke about his approach to adapting the beloved video game series for the big screen. He said that the film would be "rooted in the game" but would also "respect the theatricality" of the Mario universe.
The "Super Mario Bros." movie is being produced by Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind the "Despicable Me" films and "Minions." It is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the duo behind the animated series "Teen Titans Go!" The film will be released in theaters on December 21, 2022.
WHAT WILL BE THE SONGS?
The first one, and the one that has been heard before, is the Super Mario Bros. Plumbing theme, which promotes the brothers' business after they leave their previous job under Spike's orders.
The second song surprises the community, as it involves Bowser singing "Peaches," which talks about the terrible villain's love for Princess Peach.
Finally, the third song will be a new version of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero," which will be heard while Mario trains to defeat Bowser and save Luigi.
There will probably be more songs during the movie, but we must wait until its release to know them and enjoy them on the big screen.
