4A Games -creators of the Metro franchise- have published today via Twitter a great announcement for all the fans that have been asking for modding support for Metro since years ago, and it is now officially possible to create mods for this great title.

In the official announcement, they also comment on the current situation of the game studio and the theme that will cover the following Metro title to be developed.

4A Games developers located in Ukraine

In this announcement, the 4A Games team decided not only to share the possibility of modding Metro Exodus, but they also shared a bit of the current situation in the lives of many of them who work remotely and on-site. There are some difficulties they face due to the current situation in Ukraine, but nothing stops them from continuing to work on what they are passionate about.

That said, they also revealed how these real-world situations they are living in will serve as base themes on which to build the story of the next game in the Metro saga.

"The war in Ukraine has made us re-think what kind of story the next Metro should be about," stated 4A Games in the announcement. "All the themes of Metro – conflict, power, politics, tyranny, and repression are now part of our daily life experiences. So, we’re embracing them and weaving them into the game with a renewed purpose."

Exodus SDK

As for the Exodus SDK engine, 4A Games provides us with all the necessary information about it, from how to use it and its different functions. It is also mentioned that they have integrated Mod.io support into this engine to give more creative possibilities to those who wish to create promising future mods.

"Along with some tutorial levels and as an example of a fully featured, shipped level, we’ve included a full unpacked Metro Exodus sandbox level for you to tear apart using our tools. Feel yourself a 4A Games team member – we’ve provided you with everything our Designers, Artists, and Animators have access to!"
