Microsoft has been the talk of the town in recent weeks. After confirming a major wave of layoffs, the company has now announced a multi-million dollar investment in artificial intelligence. This will allow it to extend its OpenAI alliance and gain even more ground in this important technology.

Through a statement, the company explained the agreements of this partnership and the impact it will have on future projects. The news was received with enthusiasm by technology and artificial intelligence lovers; however, Microsoft was not spared from criticism for this announcement that came only a few days after the layoffs.

Microsoft and OpenAI create a revolutionary alliance

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, explained that they will continue to work with OpenAI, creators of DALL-E 2, ChatGPT, and other well-known tools that use artificial intelligence. Microsoft will support technology stakeholders with its infrastructure and cloud technology.

The goal is to "responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform," Nadella said. Microsoft did not disclose the amount of money it invested in this alliance, but rumors previously claimed that the figure was close to $10 MMDD.

From now on, all OpenAI projects will use Azure, Microsoft's cloud. On the other hand, the tech giant will use its partner's tools to implement them in various projects and products.

“The past three years of our partnership have been great. Microsoft shares our values and we are excited to continue our independent research and work toward creating advanced AI that benefits everyone,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

Criticism of investment after massive layoffs

Microsoft's announcement was not all enthusiasm, as several people recalled the recent wave of 10,000 layoffs that will end next March 31. Some social network users consider that the alliance announcement came too soon, so they launched criticisms against the company and Nadella.

Several critics do not see a problem in the investment in artificial intelligence as such, since it is one of the technologies of the future with more potential. However, they believe that Microsoft did not choose the best time to confirm it.

Although this news may be an excellent thing for both companies and the future that can be expected from this new alliance, the timing of this news may not have been the best. All those aware of the recent Microsoft layoffs seem to agree that it was not a good move on the part of this giant.
