One of the most popular and acclaimed proposals of 2022 was Stray, a video game developed by the independent studio BlueTwelve Studio. Its success transcended beyond the medium, as it was of the utmost importance to help stray cats in the real world.

As we told you a few months ago, Annapurna Interactive, distributor of the independent science fiction title, joined forces with a couple of foundations to help real cats in unfavorable situations.

Jeff Legaspi, director of marketing for Annapurna Interactive, spoke about these initiatives in a report on PBS News. There, he explains that the idea of allying with charities was obvious due to Stray's nature.

STRAY HELPED A LOT OF REAL CATS

Brendan Gepson, Marketing Specialist at the Nebraska Humane Society, revealed that the best way to collaborate with developers was to give away codes through their social networks. Anyone who made a $5 USD donation could be in with a chance to win a copy of the game. The initiative was a resounding success, raising around $8,000 USD.

The report shows some real pussycats. That's where we meet Paro, a sweet kitten with only 3 legs. Her new owners raised $1,500 USD thanks to a charity live stream where the cuddly kitty made an appearance.

Since its launch, Stray has conquered the hearts of players and the specialized press. In addition, it had an excellent commercial performance. Although many users disagreed, its good reception allowed it to get a GOTY nomination at The Game Awards 2022.

But tell us, what do you think of these campaigns? Let us read you in the comments.

Stray is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
