Apple is preparing to announce an AR-VR headset this 2023

Late to the party or just in time?

The VR market already has great options, either if you are searching for a low-bucket headset or the mega-ultra-ultimate VR experience, there is always something for everyone. Now, seems like, after a loooooong time, Apple is ready to enter the market.

According to a Bloomberg article, the Californian company will reveal their mixed-reality headset after seven years of development this year.

Did you know?: Nintendo's classic Switch controllers are now compatible with Apple devices

And is different because…

Apple’s VR hardware development can be traced to 2017 when they planned to launch a high-performance AR-based headset with its own operating system. Back then they wanted to release it in 2019 but as you may know, that never happened.

Delays went on and on and we ended up with a possible release four years after. Actually, the article notes that Apple had aimed to introduce the headset in January 2023 and ship it later this year, but now they are planning to unveil it this spring ahead of the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

In case you missed it: PSVR2 will have more than 30 titles at launch!

On detail

The article also says that the headset dubbed Borealis inside the company will be sold as xrOS or Reality Pro, also it mentions that it has been shared with a number of high-profile software developers for testing on third-party apps.

Apparently, the company is trying to make this their hottest new introduction of the year, they delay and cancelled other projects in order to make this work, you can say they are putting all their eggs in one basket. Will their plans prosper? Or they are too late to the party? Also is worth noting that the PS VR2 is coming next month and already seems to be the players’ new favourite.
