Naughty Dog hasn't announced their new game for a good reason

2023 looks set to be a big year for Naughty Dog. All the projects the studio has officially announced have already debuted, except the promising multiplayer The Last of Us. So fans are wondering why the studio hasn't shared details of its new project, and it's for an excellent reason.

One of the problems that came to the fore in the development of The Last of Us: Part II was the crunch that Naughty Dog experienced to meet delivery dates, something for which he was criticized, as there were testimonies of developers who claimed they underwent strenuous work, although the studio claimed it was not mandatory. The studio, however, has learned from its mistakes and implemented improvements to its development process to avoid a crunch.

WHY HASN'T NAUGHTY DOG ANNOUNCED THEIR NEW GAME?

In an interview with Comic Book, Neil Druckmann, co-president and writer of the studio, took the opportunity to reaffirm this commitment, revealing that he has not officially announced his new game because he wants to avoid the crunch.

According to Druckmann, not giving details about their new game (including release dates or windows) allows the studio to be more flexible with their development schedule in favor of better workload management, as they can change dates without being subject to the opinion of the public, since there would be no official announcement and, therefore, official delay.

"We announced Uncharted four and The Last of Us: Part II very early, but that caused some of the work-life balance issues we sometimes have in the studio," Druckmann acknowledged. "By delaying that announcement, we could play around with the schedule more and be more aware of how we approach production."
