As the first preliminary hearing between the FTC and Microsoft comes to a close, the prospect of a deal on the Activision Blizzard acquisition is becoming more and more articulate. With the start of the new year, there could be no shortage of predictions from video game analysts.
Interesting opinions
These include Piers Harding-Rolls, an expert on the video game market serving at Ampere Analysis. In outlining the possible evolution of the affair, the latter recently said that he is looking optimistically toward 2023.
According to Harding-Rolls, the Activision acquisition will have a positive outcome but will require "further concessions" from Microsoft to be completed. The analyst says these "could relate to the inclusion of titles in Game Pass and their availability in other subscription services." However, depending on how the matter develops, the timeline for completing the financial deal could vary.
The Ampere Analysis analyst, in particular, says that if a courtroom legal dispute with the FTC can be avoided, Microsoft could bring the deal home as early as the first half of the year.

Otherwise, Harding-Rolls concludes, it will be necessary to wait until the last months of 2023. Meanwhile, Chile's antitrust authorities have approved the acquisition of Activision, adding to the already vast chorus of voices in favor of completing the deal.
