Death Stranding has been in the spotlight since December 2022, due to its sequel announcement during The Game Awards 2022, its recently revealed movie to be in development, and because it was gifted by Epic Games Store in the 15 consecutive free titles event.
It also celebrated in early November 2022 the goal of 10 million porters in three years. It was indeed a great year for this outstanding title. But not everything has been perfect for this game, specifically the standard edition given away on December 25 by EGS.
What issue does it have?
The online servers have been down for approximately five days and players only receive the "Connection to Death Stranding game server is unstable. Switching to Offline Mode. Error Code: 51003" message. Probably happening due to the number of new users that claimed it on EGS and servers cannot handle the online feature with this wave of players.
And knowing that the title has a unique approach to the in-game online features providing a collaborative experience with other players around the world, most of them are upset about this, and others are even theorizing that it is intentional so players buy the Director's cut upgrade to obtain the online features that are currently not affected by this error.
The game publisher 505 Games replied via Twitter to a user asking for information about this problem. This is the only comment received on the issue and is that the "team is aware of the issue," and they will let everyone know more information regarding this once they know more.

This issue will hopefully be fixed in the following days, and probably 505 Games will share an expected date for it to be updated and have all servers up again. In the meantime, we can also wait for the release of the anticipated Death Stranding 2 which is seemingly launching in 2024 as said in a previous news article.
