We are getting closer to the premiere date of the most anticipated series of 2023, The Last of Us. This series will be exclusive to the HBO Max platform.
We have seen a few images and trailers about what we can expect from the series, but now, we can have an opinion about the performance of Bella Ramsey, who will play the role of Ellie.
According to Craig Mazin, one of the scriptwriters for the production, it was not easy to find the right actors for the leads, especially in the case of Ellie.
During an interview, the creative praised the work of Bella Ramsey, the actress chosen to bring the iconic character to life. Mazin believes that the young woman is perfect for the role and has done an excellent job. To put this in perspective, he revealed that over 100 people auditioned for this important role.

In a chat with SFX (via The Gamer), Mazin revealed that finding the right actress for the role of Ellie was difficult. He assured that they saw more than 100 people audition for the character, but no one left them as surprised as Ramsey.
In fact, the screenwriter explained that Ramsey was the first person he saw auditioning and that he was convinced from the first moment. However, he had a concern: Neil Druckmann would think differently and not realize that he had "the best Ellie" before his eyes.
“I was terrified that he wouldn't like me and I would have to live the rest of my life knowing we couldn't have the best Ellie ever. But happily, he loved it. And we couldn't have done it better. She is the most extraordinary performer,” Mazin stated.
Even though both creatives agreed that Ramsey was the one, in the end, they gave many more people the opportunity to prove her talent. Mazin believes that the role of Ellie is quite complicated since a young person with outstanding acting skills is needed, which is not common among young people starting their careers, according to the creative. Fortunately, Ramsey ticked all the boxes and landed the role.
“Ellie took longer because she's a harder role to play. We were trying to cast a 14-year-old girl, and acting is an incredibly difficult thing to do, right? It's terribly easy to do. It's hard to get it right. But it's very, very difficult to do it brilliantly. Children have not had as much experience in life. It is difficult to find children who can embody this," concluded the series writer.
This all sounds very promising; it will only be a matter of waiting a few more weeks to see this incredible series.
The Last of Us will be available on January 15, 2023, on HBO Max.
