The DCU (DC Universe) has been the subject of discussion in the last few days. Mainly due to the poor box office collected by Black Adam compared to its production cost, as well as Henry Cavill's final goodbye as Superman, despite having had a cameo in said film.

At the same time, fans were waiting to know whether or not Dwayne Johnson would enter into plans for films based on DC Comics characters. Although many imagined that this would not be the case, this Tuesday, Dwyane made his departure official.

In case you missed it: "I will, after all, not be returning as Superman," Henry Cavill reveals

A new beginning

For several years, pressured in some way by the success of Marvel and Disney, DC and Warner Bros. have been trying to establish their own-superhero cinematic universe. For one reason or another, they have not been able to achieve it, having to restart the plans on more than one occasion.

The most recent reboot features James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Peter Safran as the new leaders, who are already outlining the future for Superman and the rest of the superheroes and villains on the big screen.

Today, Dwayne Johnson announced through his social media accounts that he's not part of that future:

"James Gunn and I have hooked up, and Black Adam won't be in the first chapter of his storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the more valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future chapters of DC's multiverse."

Recent news: A Death Stranding movie is revealed to be in development

Of all that Johnson said, probably the previous paragraph is the important one, where he makes it clear that he will not be included in this first chapter of the universe devised by Gunn and Safran. Emphasis on "first chapter" because somehow it leaves the door open to return in the future.

Likewise, he comments that he and James have always maintained a mutually supportive relationship, adding that they will always "will root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG." Could it be that he took the opportunity to wink at Marvel and let them know he is open to making the leap and joining the MCU?

For his part, James Gunn shared Johnson's message by responding with one of his own.

What do you think of this whole situation? Would you have liked to continue seeing The Rock as Black Adam? Do you think he will come back in the future? Does the thought of seeing him join the MCU excite you? Share what you think in the comment box below.
