If you are nostalgic for the atmospheres of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and have a passion for Metroidvania, it might be worth keeping an eye on The Spirit of the Samurai.

Currently in development at the studios of the independent team Digital Mind Games, the title is a 2D adventure with a strong Souls-like influence.

What is this game about?

Set in the ever-evocative era of feudal Japan, The Spirit of the Samurai offers imagery filled with supernatural elements, at times deeply disturbing, as demonstrated by the dedicated trailer above.

With the footage, which features the title's Alpha version, Digital Mind Games officially announces the upcoming debut of this Metroidvania on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Taking centre stage, The Spirit of the Samurai will pose a desperate fight against Oni, who represents the embodiment of evil. The demons of Japanese lore will bar the way for the protagonist and his trusty companion Chisai, none other than a warrior cat. Also present at the call is a Kitsune-the foxes of the Rising Sun-with a guiding role amid unknown dangers.

In case you missed it: Infamous leaker in the gaming community "The Snitch" leaves the scene.

If the project intrigues you, we point out the possibility of adding the Souls-like to your Wishlist, via The Spirit of the Samurai's page found on Steam.
