Former Creative Director, Chris Metzen is back at Blizzard to work on World of Warcraft

After a six-year retirement, a legend is back

Back in September 2016, Chris Metzen decided to leave Blizzard Entertainment after more than 20 incredible years working on several projects including Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and Overwatch. His reasons at the time weren’t clear, however, time later in an interview he revealed that he suffered from burnout and panic attacks that made him feel it was best to retire. However, Blizzard Entertainment shared earlier today that Chris has returned to the company as a creative advisor for World of Warcraft.

Did you know?: The World of Warcraft mobile game was officially canceled

The announcement was made via Blizzard’s official website and confirmed by World of Warcraft General Franchise Manager John Hight’s Twitter, where he noted how happy they were for his return. This makes sense, as Metzen was one of the original team members working on the Warcraft universe when it began in 1994.

So, in this new role at Blizzard, Metzen will use his creativity, experience and expertise to help guide World of Warcraft to success. That said, his influence will also expand to other projects in the franchise.

This is certainly news that fans will be grateful for. After all, Metzen was one of the minds that helped create the entire Warcraft universe. And since his departure from the studio, the franchise has seen its ups and downs, so this is a move that could help World of Warcraft return to its best days.
