A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to watch an extended gameplay trailer of the anticipated One Piece Odyssey. And now we have obtained detailed information on the mechanics and functions that distinguish this title as an RPG different from the others.

The information was shared in an official PlayStation post in which One Piece Odyssey's producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki tells us a little about these different features that make the game a unique experience for fans. It can be a lot of information but we help you with a quick summary.

One Piece Odyssey is a brand-new turn-based RPG expected to launch on January 13, 2023. It brings many distinct features that make it a very different RPG experience that fans will love to play around with. Without further ado, let's talk about its features.

Battle system

Here we have words of Tsuzuki explaining how the title's battle system was thought: “We adapted a rock-paper-scissors element as its basic tactics, while also randomly positioning the characters into multiple areas. This is so that players can switch between various registered characters—and challenge them to make full use of each character’s unique abilities and skills to defeat the enemies at hand.”

Since you’ll have the ability to switch between characters, you can consider combat positioning, effectiveness type, Bond Arts, and potential secondary objectives in any combat encounter.

Effectiveness type

Effectiveness types are categories assigned to the Straw Hat crew and enemy NPCs for a more strategic play-style. These are Power, Speed, and Technique. Where Power is more effective against Speed-type enemies and less effective against Technique-type enemies. You can have up to nine Straw Hats with four of them in direct combat.

Bond Arts & Memory Links

The game welcomes the Bond Arts which "are among the strongest attacks that the Straw Hats can perform." The Crew have the ability to dive into a world of memories named Memoria, and they need to recover their lost power inside it.

"In order to unlock Bond Arts, players must discover these lost side quests known as Memory Links, found within Memoria, and re-live the story of bonds that certain Straw Hats share. After completing these Memory Links, the Bond Art will be unlocked and free to use throughout the game as long as the Straw Hats have the required bond level."

Dramatic scene

The Dramatic Scene system "will randomly provide mid-battle objectives and offer increased experience, currency, and loot if the objective is achieved." For example, there are enemies that must be defeated by a specific Straw Hat to be able to obtain a special reward. It may make the battle more difficult but the prize will be worth it.

Other ways to enhance your team

Tsuzuki explains: “During your adventure, you’ll find places where you can camp and have a ‘party’. By having this ‘party’, you will receive an EXP bonus for the next 10 battles you encounter."

The additional loot obtained from the Dramatic Scene challenges can give you key components to cooking, crafting Trick Balls, and enhancing equipment.

Camping & crafting

"The Straw Hats can spend time resting, carousing, and crafting when they camp. While camping, the player will have a chance to figure out how to best spend their resources through cooking, crafting Trick Balls, and utilizing Nico Robins Mystery Craft."

Equipment

"Nico Robin, the archaeologist of the Straw Hats, is the curator of the player’s equipment. Each Straw Hat has a grid and players can freely fill the grid to enhance the crew by acquiring blocks of cubes with various abilities and stats which players can find throughout the game."

In case you missed it: Netflix will have the live-action movie of My Hero Academia
