As you probably know if you're reading, The Game Awards 2022 took place last week. In addition to honoring the best in the industry, the ceremony left us with exciting trailers for some of the most anticipated games for the coming months and a couple of surprises. However, on his return to the face-to-face format, it was not all good news. In addition to the final interruption by a child who wasn't in the script (leaving us with some good memes), it has also reminded the world that COVID is not gone yet.

The virus is still among us...

And it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon. This was demonstrated (once again) after one of the special guests at The Game Awards 2022 reported having been infected with SARS-CoV-2 by attending the event in Los Angeles this past week.

We are talking about Grant Kirkhope, the composer behind the music of the legendary GoldenEye 007 and series like Donkey Kong and Banjo-Kazooie. Among his most recent collaborations is his work for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the newest game in Ubisoft's crossover between Mario and his friends with the crazy Rabbids.

The composer shared the news about his positive coronavirus test on his personal Twitter account:

The reason for his attendance was as part of the development team behind Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, nominated in the Best Family Game and Best Sim/Strategy Game categories, winning the latter.

So Kirkhope not only returned home with the satisfaction of being part of the team behind one of the night's winners but also with the bad news of having COVID-19.

The LEVEL UP team wishes Grant Kirkhope a speedy recovery. And to all our followers who are reading this, we remind you to continue taking care of yourself. It is a time of many meetings, so extreme precautions must be taken so that no one leaves with the virus.

Stay informed at LEVEL UP.
