One might think that having created one of the most popular characters in the video game industry should be more than enough to guarantee success in life. Or at least to live quietly in every way. Sadly, that hasn't been the case for Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic.

Life after leaving Sega has not been easy for the Japanese. Especially in recent years, since we cannot forget the most recent video game he was in charge of in collaboration with Square Enix, Balan Wonderworld, which was not only released in poor condition but also ended up reaping dismal sales. A failure by any measure.

After that, Naka was arrested for illicit enrichment. During his time working with Square Enix, he took advantage of his access to inside information about Dragon Quest to buy shares and resell them for significant profits. Now, we found out that he would be again at risk of going to prison.

Again embroiled in controversy

The reason for this new arrest is similar. Now, he has been accused of using private information about Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier to again generate illegal profits, now in cahoots with another former Square Enix employee.

According to what was found in investigations by Square Enix and the Tokyo authorities, Yuji Naka and Tatsuke Sazaki used privileged information about the development of Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier to buy shares of ATeam Entertainment, the studio in charge of developing the game.

Going into details, Naka bought almost 120,000 shares of the company for approximately $834,000. According to the report, this would have been done before the game was announced. They planned to resell those shares at a profit.

At the moment, Square Enix has not expressed itself in this regard, so we will have to wait to find out the outcome of this story.
