If you ever heard about the '80s game Polybius from rumor stories of its recent recreation on PlayStation VR a few years ago, then you might already hear about Jeff Minter, the independent English video game designer and programmer founder of Llamasoft.
Minter has "reimagined" the Atari arcade cabinet prototype abandoned 40 years ago, and yes, it is the Akka Arrh. After so many years, this legend will become a reality soon in 2023.
Jeff Minter, along with his software house Llamasoft, decided to bring a forgotten legend of the arcade games from the '80s that was unreleased, Akka Arrh.
It was said that only three Akka Arrh arcade cabinets remain existing, and Minter in collaboration with Atari decided to reimagine the Akka Arrh in which we'll be able to "experience a cascade of words, color, shapes, and sound flows around your turret as you desperately fight off swarms of inbound attackers."
"This is pure arcade bliss where you’ll get thrown directly into the action. Combos, high scores, and survival are the only goals here. Create massive chains of enemy explosions and rack up ammo for precision shots to keep a combo and your rings (or life force) protected. Lose them all, and it’s game over." -Atari
In case you missed it: The Callisto Protocol updates again!
Currently, there's no release date for Akka Arrh yet, but it's said to happen soon. It is confirmed that it will be available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
