We know that for many players, one of the cheapest and most accessible alternatives to enjoy a wide variety of games is through Xbox Game Pass. However, it is interesting to see the company's perspective regarding its service.
Xbox Game Pass has made many other companies think that the industry's future is to follow this monthly subscription model, but Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, disagrees with this idea.
Yes, presenting this business model to gamers is a way to bring video games to more devices, therefore, to more people. Still, Spencer doesn't want that alternative to be the standard business model in the industry.
Spencer recently reaffirmed that gamers buying games and content are very important to their ecosystem.
XBOX BETS ON OPTIONS WITH GAME PASS
“We don't have this vision of everyone paying us $15 a month. We believe that subscription is an interesting business model for certain types of games and certain customers. I see it as a way to diversify how people build their game library or how creators reach the customers they want to reach with the content they create." said Phil Spencer.
From their perspective, the service model will always be part of their business, but this does not mean they will turn their backs on players who invest directly in the titles. "I think the people who buy and own their games will be a big part of the business for years to come," Spencer added.
With this in mind, the head of Xbox has no plans to make certain games exclusive to Xbox Game Pass or to talk gamers out of buying his titles. So his goal remains to bring more and more games to as many people and devices as possible.
