There is not only Pokémon GO Community Day in Niantic's plans. The well-known software house showed off a prototype AR visor.
Niantic, a California-based software house and leading developer of AR technologies, is inspired by a future in which augmented reality makes the real world a place to connect with people and places around us in a meaningful way. Currently, the company does all this through its games and, increasingly, through its work aimed at building an open AR platform that works across multiple devices: phones today and AR viewers in the future.
What exactly is this new AR project?
Niantic announced the next step in realizing this vision: starting in 2023, Niantic's Lightship visual positioning system will be compatible with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform. This means that developers using the Snapdragon Spaces XR developer platform can easily add Lightship VPS (Visual Positioning System) functionality so that digital experiences and creations can interact and be placed in the physical world in a magical yet lifelike way.
With AR viewers designed for outdoor use, it will be possible to get the best of the actual AR experience. Niantic also plans to make Lightship VPS available to deliver location-based AR experiences on as many hardware devices as possible. The VPS makes digital creations and objects exist and remain in real-world locations as if they were physical objects. In this way, if one person places a digital object, another person can find it in the same place. This means that digital AR experiences are equivalent to people's social interactions in the physical world.

Furthermore, Niantic is working toward compatibility with Lightship VPS for the Web. Lightship VPS for Web is the ground-breaking WebAR technology that combines the real world with the digital world, transforming everyday places into destinations where unforgettable experiences can be obtained directly from the browser.
