Honda and Sony may include consoles in their new electric cars!

The cars are set to arrive on 2026

Can you imagine a car with its very own built-in videogame console? Apparently, that was the idea Honda and Sony are aiming for or at least what a new report has insinuated.

In case you are a little bit lost, you should know that both Japanese companies announced plans to deliver their first electric vehicles in 2026 under the name Sony Honda Mobility. Pre-sales for the joint venture's electric vehicles are expected to open in 2025, launching first in the United States and then in the Japanese market during the second half of 2026.

In case you are reading us from Europe or Latin America, you should know that there are no confirmed plans for a release in these continents; at least not for now.

So, consoles?

Back to the news, so you may be wondering why, well, initially the Honda x Sony partnership was born in order to compete with leading electric vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla and BYD and tries to join the best of both worlds with Honda's expertise in automobile manufacturing with Sony's prowess in the fields of sensors, software and entertainment; actually, the entertainment part is what they expect will distinguish them from the rest of the electric car market.

Sony will provide the software system for the new car; from embedded controllers to cloud-based services that will connect with payment and entertainment systems which include music, movies and gaming to build electric cars built around a premium entertainment experience.

In case you missed it: The gamer car exists, it is the new MINI x POKÉMON

“Sony has content, services and entertainment technologies that move people. We are adapting these assets to mobility, and this is our strength against Tesla.” said the president of Sony Honda Mobility Izumi Kawanishi.

Kawanishi noted that Tesla is not providing any type of content services and they think is technologically possible to add PS5 hardware into their cars.

Also, he said that their main goal is to release fully self-driving vehicles, where the user enjoys the space provided where they don’t need to drive, you know, the ultimate experience in autonomous driving.

While the idea of a built-in console is tempting, we have heard terrible news regarding self-driving cars. Only time will tell if this is a good idea.
