After the one related to NFTs and blockchains, Sony has registered a new patent that seems to highlight the company's desire to devise a system to pause games automatically.
The mechanism would be activated only and exclusively at times when the user is not actively playing the game, thus preventing unpleasant in-game situations while not present.
How would this work?
According to PSU, the patent reads: "A technique detects when a computer simulation controller such as a computer game controller is idle and, thus that the simulation (game) should be paused immediately without waiting for an "AwayFromKeyboard" timer to out by detecting whether or not the user has laid the controller down and gone away or simply is not responding."
This could be a helpful method for players who suddenly have to pause their game and move away from the gaming station. Still, one also has to wonder-considering that a single button press is required-who would not manually pause before putting down the controller. What if one wanted to leave one's character in an idle spot to capture footage, enjoy the playing soundtrack, or even admire a location that particularly struck one's fancy?
In case you missed it: Fire Emblem Engage shows a new trailer with its story.
We do not know precisely how the technology would impact the user experience, and it is also not to be taken for granted that this patent will one day take shape in a concrete form. Hence, we need to be patient before jumping to conclusions.
