While Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that GTA 6 will be delayed, Kirk Ewing, the co-founder of virtual avatar app Veemee, spoke on Bugzy Malone's Grandest Game podcast stating that Rockstar Games has, in the past, refused to make a movie based on the GTA series featuring Eminem.

Ewing says a late-night conversation with Sam Houser almost led to a green light for the film, but the idea was eventually shelved.

Why did this movie never happen?

"Because of the relationship I had with Rockstar and Sam, I tracked him down one night in his hotel room, where I knew he was going to stay for a while, and we stayed up late discussing the possibility of making a movie. This was right after the launch of Grand Theft Auto 3. And I think at that point it was still something that Sam thought he could do,'' Ewing said.

''I remember getting a call around 4 a.m. from one of the producers in Los Angeles with an offer to make a movie: 'Kirk, we have Eminem as the lead, and it's a Tony Scott movie, five million. Are you interested?' And I phoned Sam and said, 'Look, they want Eminem in the Grand Theft Auto movie and Tony Scott to direct.' And he said he wasn't interested. At that point, they withdrew from any conversation about making a movie when they realized that the media franchise they had was bigger than any movie going on at that time."

The Grand Theft Auto series results to date as one of the best-selling ever in the video game industry, with GTA V alone standing at 170 million copies sold since its launch in 2013.
