Recently Nintendo shared its second-quarter financial results and one of the things that catch our attention was the diversity among the Nintendo Switch users. As you already know, the Japanese company is pretty much all-ages oriented so it is not surprising that their range of users goes from kids to seniors.
Actually, this is not the first time, as the Wii and Nintendo DS had proven to be all age-friendly systems, however, they didn’t reach the numbers the Switch just had.

According to the report over the past year, the number of annual playing users has grown across all age groups meaning that the number of Nintendo Accounts registered to Switch systems have exponentially grown too!
But wait, this doesn’t mean that the hardware sales have grown at the same rate, no. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa pointed out that the number of annual playing users is not directly related to the sales as “multiple people play on the same Nintendo Switch”.
These numbers doesn’t seem to go down
In this 12-month period (October 2021 to September 2022) the number of players reached 106 million with no downward movement in the trend as of now. However, is worth noting that these numbers only count people who have connected to the internet and consented to provide statistical information to Nintendo, also it does not include the use of Nintendo eShop or other non-software services.
On the other hand, it was also reported that the Nintendo Switch is finding its way into more people's hands, surprisingly besides first-time consumers, the company have noticed that people are purchasing additional systems or purchasing Nintendo Switch – OLED Model as a replacement system.
As a result, some 30% of all Nintendo Switch units sold in the current fiscal year were purchased to serve as an additional system, so maybe we are talking about 2 or 3 Switch in the same household.
