Overwatch 2 reached 35 million players in one month

Is it thanks to the free-to-play model?

A couple of days ago was the one-month anniversary of the arrival of Overwatch 2, and even though the game has been a little controversial after a very rough premiere, it seems that this does not stop its popularity. According to Activision Blizzard is the complete opposite.

In its third-quarter financial results, which were published today, the company revealed the latest player count, until November 4, Overwatch 2 has attracted over 35 million players across all platforms; an impressive milestone taking into account that its predecessor reached this number after one year and four months.

A steady grow

On the other hand, is worth noting that the game reached over 25 million players in its first 10 days, making it a fast-growing title despite its endless difficulties.

“The expanded community is engaging deeply, with average daily player numbers for the first month of Overwatch 2 more than double that of its acclaimed predecessor.”

Of course, as you have already imagined, they reached this number thanks to its free-to-play model which has drawn many players to try Overwatch for the first time, which explains the fast growth. In the document, Blizzard also mentioned their intention to keep the game updated and “ambitious” as they first intended, delivering regular seasonal updates with new characters, maps and modes and the long-awaited PvE mode which is planned for 2023.

Actually, Overwatch 2‘s next tank hero, Ramattra, will arrive this December 6 along with the Season 2 update.
