We all know (right?) that virtual reality has been around for several years now. However, sometimes it seems that it is still a long way from reaching the level of popularity and accessibility that many developers and consumers would like.

In that sense, this time we have to talk a little about an interesting startup that proposes that instead of having a VR device in our house or on the show floor of an event, we have it in the car.

VR, now on the go!

We are not talking about driving a car in real life through VR. That seems very dangerous. This proposal is aimed rather at the backseat passengers. Sorry for the co-driver, but seeing him wearing a headset could distract the driver and cause an accident.

Holoride, an Audi spin-off, announced $700 hardware and software combo that synchronizes games and videos with the motion of a car.

Holoride works by getting data from the car via Bluetooth and uses the turns and twists on the road as the action within its built-in game. In the same way, when a video is playing it uses to stabilize the image.

From a family perspective, car trips have always been a problem for parents with children, with video games being a good option to keep them busy. That said, it doesn't seem like a good alternative to have the kids (or anyone) in the back of the car moving around in sync with what they're watching on their headsets.

Holoride will be available in mid-November, first in Germany. As for the U.S., the company expects to launch it in early 2023.
