Contrary to fans' hopes for the rumoured return of Parasite Eve with Symbiogenesis, Square Enix reveals that the anticipations about this new brand refer to the development of a Web3 experience set in an 'Artistic Metaverse' filled with characters to be unlocked through special NFTs.
As described by the company, Symbiogenesis is its "first digital collectable art project designed from the ground up for Web3 fans". I did not see that one coming. The company promises to bring "an interactive story and a dedicated community."

What is this new title, then?
Symbiogenesis will therefore be one of Square Enix's very first 'narrative' NFT-based projects, a title that the Japanese giant itself describes as a stand-alone universe with many digital collections made from scratch, set in a self-contained world and with many characters found in symbiosis.
Each player-obtained character-NFTs can be used as a hero in a story that takes place in an alternate world in which the user will be called upon to complete various missions revolving around issues such as monopolization and resource distribution in the contemporary era.

Square Enix stresses that sales of the first NFTs linked to the Symbiogenesis project will officially begin in the spring of 2023, at the same time as the launch of a 'free browser service' to manage this video game blockchain and use the heroes-NFTs in a story that will change according to the choices made by players.
