Back in August this year, Embracer Group entered one of the biggest shopping sprees of the year after acquiring Square Enix‘s western development studios and Middle-earth Enterprises, which owns and oversees the intellectual property catalogue for everything Lord of the Rings.
The company said not long ago that they were planning to revive some of its studios’ most emblematic franchises, take Legacy of Kain by Crystal Dynamics for example.

They are busy-busy
Well, they're true to their word as a new report from Bloomberg suggests that a new Deus Ex game is reportedly in very early development at Eidos Montreal. Yes, you read that one right, reporter Jason Schreier shared the news and also noted that the studio is really busy as they are working on a new IP and collaborating with Microsoft on Xbox games including Fable.
Is worth noting that this movement is also caused by the closing of Square Enix Montréal, just weeks after it was rebranded as Onoma. It was reported by Schreier that most of Onoma’s staff will be transferred to Eidos Montreal, in order to work on the studio’s current projects.
Eidos Montreal, which remains intact, canceled the Stranger Things-inspired "kids on bikes" game that was rumored recently. They're now working on:

1) A new IP (recently rescoped)
2) A new Deus Ex (very very early)
3) co-dev partnerships with Xbox including Fable
Ok, but back to the news, the Deus Ex game in question is “very very early” in development, so besides this, there are no more details available.
We, like the community, could not wait to see a new Deus Ex instalment in the latest generation of consoles. Just think about it, at the beginning of the year Crystal Dynamics announced that their next Tomb Raider game had entered development using Unreal Engine 5… Can you imagine most of these revived franchises with the same treatment?
Did you know?: Embracer Group is already thinking “decades ahead” with The Lord of the Rings IP
There is a lot going on, but don’t worry, remember to stay tuned here at Level Up for more updates!
