Phil Spencer’s guest appearance on The Wall Street Journal gave us a lot to talk about, to be fair what caught our attention was the Game Pass profitability, however, the head of Xbox didn’t stop there and is possible that he hinted a future Xbox console, game and subscription price increases.
If you don’t remember, at the end of July, Sony announced that the shortage has forced them to raise the price of its products; and while Xbox and Nintendo assured they weren’t planning to raise console prices, seems like the time to change its decision may be closer.
During the WSJ Tech Live the Xbox boss suggested that their products and services may increase in price in the future.
"I do think at some point we'll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into this holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices.”
Near future? … Distant?
Of course, he didn’t specify a date and we can completely understand why. The holiday season is just around the corner and maybe you don’t want people panicking yet… at least let them enjoy Christmas.

Most users seem to think that Xbox is planning to charge $70 for third-party games as competitor Sony does, and while increasing the monthly fee for its subscription service is also a possibility, players don’t seem very bothered as some think that the value of the Game Pass is worth it.
In case you missed it: Xbox declares it won’t raise the price of its consoles
On the other hand, if Spencer didn’t specify a date we can be sure that at least for this year prices will be the same. To be fair, it was just about time they talk about the eventual rise in prices, so let's enjoy these ones while they last.
