As we have learned over the past few months, The Lord of The Rings: Gollum will no longer be coming to market in 2022. The project in question, published by Nacon, is postponed until a later date, but the desire to experience this new product firsthand does not seem to have left the minds of gamers.
The imaginary world created by J. R. R. Tolkien has inspired a wide range of video game products, some of which we have been able to appreciate quite a bit throughout the last several console generations. One of the great appeals of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit has always been how easily that fictitious world lends itself to retelling in a play, movie, or book.
As fascinating as the reinterpretations above of Tolkien's works may be for fans of the fantasy genre, they lent themselves to a clear departure from the author's original conception, which went against the productions' fidelity in favor of linearity more in line with the interests of the public, or, in other cases, excessive attachment to the writer's work gave little room for creative maneuver.
Gollum, on the other hand, goes a step further in this regard by exposing the actual possibilities of video game production; neither will the game be a soulless admiration of its own to the paperwork nor will it be a complete reconstruction of that world. According to the head of publishing, Jonas Hüsges' comments to the Games Industry portal, it appears that the game would emulate Peter Jackson's original trilogy.
"Right now, we are probably the closest to the main storyline of the [Peter Jackson] trilogy, but we're exploring it from this completely different angle," Hüsges said.
