W7M Esports rises female player's salaries to match their male counterparts

One of the few teams in Latin America to do that

We can’t stress enough how important and how much of a necessity is equality in the industry, however, we have witnessed important advances in recent times and we can say that what W7M Esports a professional Brazilian team did was one of them.

This week the Brazilian organization announced it is raising the salaries of its women’s rosters to match its men’s teams, as a result, female players will receive a rise of about 300%. This was possible thanks to the help of Banco do Brasil, which is the main partner of this initiative.

We don’t have exact numbers

Of course, neither Banco do Brasil nor W7M disclosed the exact quantity of money each pro player receives, however, this initiative pretends to rise the value of women’s competitive scene by just balancing the investments for men and women in esports, which also promotes very needed equity.

In the words of Felipe Funari, W7M Esports Founder:

“This is the essence of W7M, the majority of the moves we make ought to guide the market. Of course, it is important that we look to ourselves and understand W7M as a business, but it is even more interesting if we get other people following the same path.”

He also noted that it was an honour to lead this initiative; hopefully, more teams will help evolve the women’s scene. On the other hand, Banco do Brasil also pronounced itself mentioning that since they closed this deal with W7M Esports they will keep pushing to foment even further the female pro players scenario.

We are very happy with this news. Can it change the way female pro-players are received in the community? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
