Sad news for The Witcher fans out there. CD Projekt has confirmed that the next title in The Witcher franchise could arrive by 2025.
Earlier this year, the publisher in charge of The Witcher franchise confirmed that it was working on another installment, codenamed "Polaris." This next game will be part of a new trilogy. Unfortunately, the upcoming title will take some time to prepare for the fans.
CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński spoke about The Witcher 4; he said that the game is still in early development. Kiciński noted that much of the current work on The Witcher 4 is tied to a new game engine:
"For 'Polaris', we are preparing technology. This is the first project to be released on the new engine, Unreal Engine 5, [so] there is a need for some extra work making this technology," he said. "For this project, for sure, we need some extra effort to deliver."

According to ComicBook.com, one investor asked about what this means for the potential release of The Witcher 4. Specifically, it was asked whether or not the game would be three years away or more, given the previously stated trajectory of The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6. Kiciński then affirmed this to be accurate, which means that the earliest in which The Witcher 4 could arrive would be 2025.
As we have previously experienced with other titles, relying on an exact release date is practically impossible. In this case, if the year is still not clear, we can’t expect it to be ready in 2025. And even less when the title is allegedly being created alongside Unreal Engine.
CD Projekt has stressed that The Witcher 4 is still very far away. Nevertheless, we can anticipate more details from the story and maybe some official images in the following months.
