Some players trying to jump into the game with prepaid contract phone numbers are unable to play Overwatch 2 due to a limitation related to number authentication, with prepaid plans not being accepted by the system.

For security reasons, Activision Blizzard requires a phone number associated with the Battle.net account; at this number, you will receive an SMS notification for unauthorized access to the account, as many players have noted; however, the platform does not accept numbers associated with prepaid contracts instead of subscriptions.

With the new update on October 7, Activision will remove the SMS protection system. According to Blizzard, once the patch is released, all Overwatch players who have linked a Battle.net account since June 9, 2021, will no longer be required to use a phone number to play the game, this according to the game's official website.

In other words, anyone with a verified Battle.net profile will be able to avoid receiving Overwatch 2 authentication codes via SMS, while everyone else will continue down this road.

The company is also working to fix the issue of lost content caused by switching from Overwatch to Overwatch 2, which is a bug that should be resolved in one of the next updates, while the login issues and errors caused by excessive traffic are gradually decreasing.
