Thousands of people watched live streams of Blizzard's free-to-play hero shooter

Yesterday was a day of happiness and frustration for all fans of the Overwatch franchise. Although the sequel had its official launch yesterday, which would mean that this would bring a lot of enthusiasm, unfortunately, it suffered problems with its servers leaving thousands of players unable to enjoy the title.

However, there were plenty of gamers, including quite a few content creators, who were lucky enough to be able to play the title with little to no issues. So many of them streamed the title on the Twitch streaming platform.

OVERWATCH 2 IS A SUCCESS DESPITE THE DISADVANTAGES

Although many players have experienced up to 40,000 people unsuccessfully logging into the game, those who were lucky enough to play made the game one of the most popular on the Twitch platform.

According to data from the statistical portal SullyGnome (via Dexerto), Overwatch 2 reached an impressive peak of 625,000 viewers on the streaming platform during the afternoon of October 4. That allowed it to become the most watched game worldwide at that time.

As of this writing, Blizzard's hero shooter's situation is still favorable. We say this because it has 282,453 viewers and is the second most popular category on Twitch, only behind Just Chatting.

That number is likely to increase as more fans and players are able to get onto the servers and duel online (something that looks like it's going to be a long time coming).

Even though Overwatch 2 had a healthy audience on the platform, the truth is that most viewers only saw their favorite content creators dealing with connectivity issues. For example, former pro player xQc spent hours on the home screen waiting for his turn to play.
