A few days ago, we learned that the super talented composer and musician Ed Sheeran had collaborated with Pokémon to create a new song inspired by the upcoming titles Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
Now Celestial is here! And it is as cute and beautiful as every Ed Sheeran fan would thought it could be.
We’ve teamed up with @edsheeran on a new track! ‘Celestial’ will be featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet! 😍

The track was released alongside a music video featuring all sorts of Pokémon – from a Snorlax that saves Sheeran from a car accident to a Lapras that takes him across a river. All of the sketches were art-directed by Yu Nagaba. Inside a light electronic-pop instrumental, Ed Sheeran sings about the ups and downs in a relationship, specifically long-distance relationships that always come back for each other.
In the Celestial music video, Ed is living through a typical day, which soon turns into a cinematic animation, similar to the cover for the song.
In a comment on Celestial video, Sheeran stated: “It’s been a pleasure to work with the team who have brought so much joy to millions of people around the world. Hope you all love the video.”
Sheeran also elaborated on his long-standing love for Pokémon in a separate statement. “I’ve played Pokémon since I was in primary school,” he said. “Me and my brother used to have different versions of the games and would trade Pokémon together ‘til we each completed our Pokédex. I loved the cards, but the games are what I lost myself in. I loved the whole world they created; it kept me distracted if there was negative stuff happening in my life/school that I wanted to avoid. It was a world I could escape into, and I’ve played it ever since.
Even though I’m 31 now, I still own the same Game Boy Colour and play Pokémon Yellow or Silver on planes and trains when I’m on tour. So it’s such an honour to add a song to a Pokémon game and shoot a nostalgic video too. I hope you guys enjoy the song and video – it was a blast to film!”
