Rumour: GTA 6 development restarted during the debut of Red Dead Redemption 2

Ended up being smaller to prevent crunch among employees

Before we begin, remember, rumours are just that until an official source confirms this information, so we recommend taking it with a grain of salt. Now that we are clear… It has been reported that the new instalment of the franchise, GTA VI was in the works way before the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, however, its development was restarted when the open-world western debuted in 2018.

According to insider Tez2 via GTA forums, there are multiple reasons behind the alleged reboot of development, among them the criticisms of the company overworking their employees and pushing them in order to meet unrealistic deadlines.

Tez2 suggests that the reboot came in order to change the game's ambitious size and reduce said crunch among employees, actually, the insider cited a report from the Bloomberg news portal in which journalist Jason Schreier highlighted that the project's codename was Project Americas because it was going to have multiple locations.

The idea was to develop three different maps, including one set in a different country. Obviously, the company ditched the idea of a South America location while keeping other stuff they developed such as the map and other assets.

No more controversy…

Finally, the insider mentioned that Rockstar Games registered a new patent, other users highlighted another patent filed in 2020 that seeks to improve the artificial intelligence of NPCs and vehicles, both must be refereed to the same one.

On the other hand, they also informed that one of its inventors joined the company's ranks in 2019 which may boost the development of the game.

"While crunch concerns were part of the motives behind the reboot, Rockstar probably also required new animation technology. So, the reboot is a consequence of a multitude of reasons that worked in Rockstar's favour," Tez2 concluded in its publication.

With rumours and rumours about GTA VI coming out maybe we are close to an official announcement... Maybe an announcement trailer? Hopefully, we will see soon.
