Jon Spector acknowledges that collaborations are interesting

So far, one of the most popular games that stand out for its collaborations with other franchises is Fortnite. They collaborate with unique themed events depending on the collaboration and add a lot of new content to the game.

Could it be that this same collaboration trend is coming to Overwatch 2? We're a week away from the release of the Overwatch sequel, and fans are eager to know every detail of what's to come for the title.

If you are familiar with the game, you will know that in the original game, there were no customization items inspired by other franchises. So far, there has been no announcement that the franchise will take on the collaboration trend. However, Jon Spector, vice president of Overwatch, did drop the possibility in a recent interview.

OVERWATCH 2 COULD HAVE CROSSOVERS WITH FRANCHISES OF OTHER COMPANIES

Why do we say this? It turns out that in a recent interview with the Game Informer portal, Jon Spector confessed that they have seen that collaborations with other brands work very well in proposals from competitors. He gave Naruto's debut in Fortnite as an example.

“We've seen some really fun examples out there of games working with other brands or other games," Spector says. "I'm a big anime nerd myself. I think it's super cool when I see Naruto appear in Fortnite. I don't even play Fortnite, but that's awesome. “

Although he did not disclose whether there will be collaborations with third-party games, the Blizzard worker affirms that the company is evaluating the possibility of carrying out crossovers in Overwatch 2. Of course, he explained that, if they do, they will try to make the content feel organic and not like a simple advertising event.

If and when we do that, one of our key values is to do it in a way that feels like a great fit for the Overwatch franchise."

He continues, "So we've been more focused on those collaborations as the stuff we might be interested in doing. And less on the ads-in-our-game type stuff."

Overwatch 2 will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, on October 4.
