Attention Sable fans! One of the most visually pleasing titles of 2021 is celebrating its first anniversary with an equally beautiful artbook that every fan must have at home.
Sable: Design Works will be the first installment from publisher Lost in Cult's new series of indie-focussed art books. This release will launch in the second quarter of 2023 and will feature interviews from the developer team and a "region-by-region insight" into the world of Midden and its art.
Alongside the book's release, Lost in Cult produced a limited edition set of Sable prints in large format. This is the first time official prints for Sable have been made available. Signed versions will be available for everyone who pre-orders during the pre-order campaign (ends November 23rd, 2022).
Remember that the game with the original Japanese Breakfast soundtrack will be released with additional content as well as PlayStation-exclusive features end of this year for PlayStation 5.
Here is the official description from Lost in Cult regarding the anniversary merch:
The definitive art and making-of book, “Sable: Design Works,” will take you on an expedition across the vast deserts of Midden, zooming in on the incredible landscapes that we all spent hours gliding across, complete with a trove of annotated concepts, sketches, maps, reference photos, and visual assets.
The book will be split into two sections. The first charts the development of Sable from its early concept and prototype through its production and launch. This is paired with extensive developer commentary and interviews, primarily with Gregorios Kythreotis (Creative Director), who carefully walks us through this long desert journey. Additional interviews with Daniel (the other half of Shedworks), Michelle Zauner (who produced Sable’s OST), Micah Holland (Animation), Martin Kvale (Sound Designer), Shanaz Byrne (Artist), and more.
The second half of the book focuses on the art and visuals of Sable — each chapter featuring a detailed individual analysis of Midden’s seven regions. This section breaks down the characters, costumes, and stories associated with the area while highlighting unique geography, ruins, monuments, fauna and flora, bike parts, and masks. This section also includes a detailed map of Midden, level design layouts, locations over time, mood boards, a UI breakdown, logo designs, and various cut concepts.
This limited Deluxe edition entombs the book within a vibrant red slipcase, coloured after hoverbike Simoon’s dazzljet trailsails, debossed with a window into the world of Sable. Every Deluxe book is numbered and comes with a bespoke Sable bookplate signed by Shedworks’ Greg and Dan. The book and slipcase are bound in our uniquely-branded Lost in Cult “Design Works” Obi strip and will be shipped in a unique, Sable branded mailbox, which will also contain: six A5 concept art sketches, a folded map of Midden, a sticker sheet of Sable masks, and a celluloid-style bookmark showcasing animation frames from Sable (modeled after tickets from the official Ghibli Museum)!
The Deluxe edition will also include three unique cut-out architectural models designed by London model-maker Ellie Sampson. These come in three levels of complexity (beginner, intermediate, and expert), along with precise construction instructions (you’ll need a ruler, craft knife or scalpel, scissors, PVA glue, and a protective surface!). The card models are Beetle Tent, Ancient Race Monument (pictured), and Spaceship — subject to change.
