Resident Evil Village's Shadow of Rose DLC will be in the third person, which presented a significant challenge for Capcom, given that Village began as a first-person game. Does this imply that there will be an increasing number of third-person Resident Evil games? It depends.
In reality, nothing has been decided, and the producers of Resident Evil Village have stated in a recent interview with Dengeki that Capcom will evaluate on a case-by-case basis, deciding whether to adopt the first-person or third-person view based on the individual games, as has already happened in the past for various titles related to the most popular horror series in the world of video games (and not only).
It is not sure that Resident Evil 9 will have to follow the path set by Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and Resident Evil 8. For the next game, the developers may adopt a third-person view like the first six games in the saga and then change their minds with other games; basically, the view will be chosen based on the narrative and gameplay needs of individual productions.
Instead, it seems that there are no plans for a third-person mode of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard since the game was designed from the ground up to be played in the first-person perspective.
Resident Evil Village is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
