Splinter Cell Remake: Ubisoft is looking to rewrite the story for a modern audience

Ubisoft announces new job openings

Even though it has been almost a year since the announcement, the Splinter Cell remake has yet to be seen in action. Ubisoft Toronto is working in complete silence, with the most recent tentative update dating back to February of last year.

However, an important piece of information about the project has come to us indirectly via a job posting from the Canadian development team, which has just launched a search for a new screenwriter to work on Splinter Cell Remake.

Using the original game as a starting point and source of inspiration, the required figure must contribute to "rewriting and updating the story for a modern audience." According to the document, Ubisoft Toronto intends to "keep the spirit and themes of the original game while exploring our characters and the world to make them more authentic and believable."

The intent is clear, but it remains to be seen how much rehashing will occur. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was first released in 2002, and the geopolitical context - an aspect to which the games in the series have always paid close attention - has changed dramatically since then.

The Splinter Cell Remake gameplay will be faithful to the original, not just the spirit and themes of the story. The game, which will be powered by the same Snowdrop Engine as The Division and the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, will not be turned into an open world, as previously stated.
