According to XGP, from Poland comes a sad but unsurprising rumor that Microsoft is canceling pre-orders for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, implying that the game has been postponed indefinitely, leaving no specific release date.
In fact, since the postponement to 2023, no specific release date for the title has been given, but after the presentation of the new trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, there was some hope of seeing it in its final state, not far away in time.
The decision to cancel pre-orders may still indicate considerable uncertainty regarding when the game will finally release.
On the other hand, at the last presentation in June, we got a clear picture of the situation in which the GSC Game World development team finds itself: as a Ukrainian studio, it found itself subject to the Russian invasion and in the middle of clashes in the Kyiv area, right in the heart of Ukraine's war.
Subsequently, the team resumed development after a forced hiatus caused by events, but some team members are still directly involved in the conflict, which says a lot about the studio's still precarious situation and, as a result, the game's development.
Given all of this, another delay would not be surprising, even though the Steam pre-order already lists a December 2023 release date, which could also shift it to the following year. In any case, we're waiting to hear from GSC Game World and Microsoft.
